Cheow Lan Lake Fishing Report, Khao Sok NP, Thailand
It’s been a while since our last fishing report from Cheow Lan lake in the south jungle of Thailand. But we’re excited to share a great update about the best wild freshwater fishing in Thailand.
We’ve had some fantastic trips on Cheow Lan Lake and in the jungle rivers of Khao Sok National Park. We have experienced; low water levels presented a few challenges and required a more technical approach. However, following the last rainy season, water levels in the lake and rivers have returned to normal, improving conditions and opening up more productive areas.
The lake has been fishing very well, with anglers landing some big and beautiful record breaking 8 and 9 kg. Giant Snakehead. As well, some real nice Giant Gouramis, and some big hard-fighting Hampala barb and nice sizes Striped Snakehead, Forest Snakehead, Emperor Snakehead.
Both on lure and fly-fishing equipment, many guests have enjoyed incredible battles, with these powerful Thai fish species, many of which put on explosive runs and aggressive strikes.
Alongside the fishing, the lake continues to deliver unforgettable wildlife experiences, with the surrounding jungle providing a truly unique backdrop. Where many customers had a great opportunity, to take a closer look, at many of the different animals and birds that live here in the jungle.
The River Fishing
The River FishingIn the mountain rivers, we’ve also had some excellent days. Reaching these remote spots often involves rewarding hikes through the jungle, adding to the adventure. Fly fishing in these clear, fast-flowing rivers has been productive, with several impressive Blue Mahseer brought to hand. These fish are known for their strength and speed, making them a highlight for any fly angler.
Overall, the conditions last season have been very good across both lake and river systems. With healthy water levels, active fish, and incredible surroundings, it’s been a memorable period here in Khao Sok. We’re looking forward to some more great fishing in the months ahead.
